Our Long Distance Romance
When I met my wife she was working at a contract job in Connecticut. She would travel from time to time, up and down the east coast. One trip took her to a beautiful place where she stayed at a Pennsylvania bed and breakfast.
She met some really nice people on that trip, and then met me a few weeks later. We dated online for several weeks before meeting face to face, and when we did, sparks man… Her life has never been the same.
Pink Bar Stools
I know, I must be boring you with my sniplets of memories of my grandparents, but heck, this blog is dedicated to reminiscing and nostalgia…
My mother’s parents lived in a co-op in Las Vegas, and one of my earliest memories is sitting in their kitchen, which was pink. A pink refrigerator, a pink stove, a pink oven, a pink countertop and pink bar stools.
I would sit in one of those bar stools while I ate cereal, or lunch, or whatever, and I would spin and spin until I was just too dizzy to eat anymore. Then I would stumble across the room, laughing the whole time.
Wow. That memory was 35 years old, or more. Ouch
My Grandfather Was Too Cool
A couple days ago I mentioned that my grandfather kept one eye on the stock market at all times. I can’t imagine what he would think of the Dow Jones topping 14,000 this past week. I’m a bit shocked myself. My 401k seems to be doing pretty good, but then again, he taught me to always do my market research before investing in any particular stock or mutual fund.
Thanks, Papa!
Crystal Swallows Bring Back Memories
I don’t recall my grandmother wearing a lot of jewelry, but I do remember she loved crystal. In fact, I have a crystal candy dish on my desk that once belonged to my grandmother. She loved staying home, and would love browsing shops, like reeds jewelers. They have some Swarovski Crystal Swallows that she would have absolutely fallen in love with.
I Wish I Had Business Sense
When I was younger, my grandfather would sit and read through the entire business section of the newspaper. He was consumed with learning as much as he could about every company he could, and with the advent of the internet, he took full advantage of the information provided by companies using financial reporting software.
I wish I knew half as much as he did about the business world.
Twenty Five Years Ago
Twenty-five years ago I arrived in Hawaii, ready to start my first year of college. I remember seeing, as we travelled from the airport to my grandparents home, rows and rows of Mailboxes of every shape and size. Sometimes you could see the house that went with the cooresponding mailbox, other times there was just greenery and banyan trees. Sometimes I miss Hawaii.
We Could Drive For 400 Miles
I remember, when I was a kid, that our truck had two gas tanks. When we would take trips to Northern Nevada, my dad would fill up both tanks and off we would go. We’d get 2/3 of the way there before needing to stop for gas again.
I’m wondering though, as I look at new trucks, do they have any that come with two tanks anymore? Oh sure, I have seen some with a fuel transfer tank, which might work, if they don’t produce trucks with two tanks anymore.
I’ll post more about our trips in that truck soon.
