1958: Got A Job

On this day in 1958, the Miracles first single was released.

That big job, working from 9 to 5, taking care of the kids, buying groceries, searching for life insurance quotes here and there,. Look at all the stuff that starts when you get a job. Getting the job may be tough, but the end result lasts for the rest of your life. :)

1954: Secret Love

On this day in 1954, “Secret Love” by Doris Day hit #1 in the U.S.

Ah yes, a Secret Love. One with which you could end up having a much bigger surprise with. Imagine, just one night with a secret love and you too could be counting the days, learning how to breathe, and taking pills from www.prenatalvitamins.net to make sure your baby is as healthy as possible.

1979: Sexy!

On this day in 1979, “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” hit #1 in the United States. Young women across the nation, in an obvious attempt to become sexy just for Rod Stewart, searched for every weight loss product they could find. Little did they know that sexy isn’t always small.

Stewart scored another UK number one and US number one single with “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” which was a crossover hit reaching number five on the Billboard black charts due to its disco sound. This was the lead single from 1978’s Blondes Have More Fun…or do they? which went to number one on the Billboard album charts and sold 4 million albums. It was to be Stewart’s last number one album for 25 years

The 1970’s were really messed up, weren’t they? I have a hard time every time I liten to an oldies channel and something from the 1970’s comes on. Last night it was “Play That Funky Music” and they were!!! Everyone dogs the Sixties, but I think the 1970’s were much worse, at least from a musical perspective.

1971: Rose Garden

On this day in 1971, Lynn Anderson received a gold record for “Rose Garden”. As a fan of older music and performers, I am having trouble placing whether or not Anderson was on a commercial for NC health insurance back in the day… If it wasn’t her it was someone who looked an awful lot like her.

Of course, it’s all a mute point now, since most people don’t even remember who Lynn Anderson is anyway.

1955: Hush!

On this day in 1955, the Lennon Sisters debuted on the Lawrence Welk Show, and they stayed for 13 years. Remember, this was in the day of no treadmills, no fitness centers, and no obsession with losing weight. Of course, we weren’t as obese then, and fast-food restaurants we just a small blip on the radar too.

The Lennon Sisters were a class act, you can’t find organic music like that anymore, not without hunting for a long, long time.

1972: Helen Reddy – I Am Woman

On this day in 1972, Helen Reddy received a gold record for ‘I Am Woman’, a hallmark song of the 1970’s. Yes, some of us remember the 1970’s, even though sometimes we try not to.

That was back in the days before heated mattress pads, I think. We had electric blankets that would shock you sometimes, those were fun, if I remember correctly.

1970: Cracklin’ Rosie

On this day in 1970, Neil Diamond received a gold record for his song, ‘Cracklin’ Rosie’. It turns out he was going to need a few more mounts for those records.

After Diamond had signed a deal with the MCA Records label of Universal Pictures’ parent company, MCA Inc., whose label was then called the Uni Records label in the late 1960s, he moved to Los Angeles, California in 1970. His sound mellowed, with such songs as “Sweet Caroline,” “Holly Holy,” “‘Cracklin’ Rosie,” and the country-and-western tinged “Song Sung Blue,” the last two of which reached #1 on the Hot 100. “Sweet Caroline” was Diamond’s first major hit after his slump. Diamond recently admitted in 2007 that he had written “Sweet Caroline” for Caroline Kennedy after seeing her on the cover of Life Magazine in an equestrian riding outfit. It took him just one hour, in a Memphis hotel, to write and compose it. The 1971 “I Am…I Said” was a top five hit in both the U.S. and UK, and was his most intensely personal effort to date, taking upwards of four months to complete.

1972: The End Of An Era

On this day in 1972, John C. Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival went their separate ways. One of the best bands ever. I could listen to CCR anytime. Driving, walking, working in the yard, writing a diet pill review, you name it.

Despite the relatively poor reception of Mardi Gras and deteriorated inter-group relationships, the band immediately embarked upon a two-month, 20-date U.S. tour. Hecklers reportedly pelted the band with coins at the final stop of the tour on May 22 in Denver.[citation needed] Finally, on October 16, 1972 – less than six months later – Fantasy Records and the band officially announced the disbanding of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
