Freedom 7 Launches
On this day in 1961, Alan Shepard became the first American to travel into sub-orbital space.
I remember this footage and much more footage from the Apollo missions. Of course, I only remember this one from news footage, since I was not even born when this happened.

Margaret Mitchell Wins The Pulitzer
On this day in 1937, Margaret Mitchell won the Pulitzer Prize in fiction for “Gone With The Wind”.
I wonder what Margaret Mitchell did to unwind? It’s not like she could pack up for the weekend and travel to Panama City Beach or make reservations for Sea Pines rentals at Hilton Head. I don’t know what I do without those two options myself. I guess I would be ‘Gone Like The Wind’.
You can find out more about this day in history at the History Channel, Those Were The Days, and InfoPlease .
