Stevie Wonder Sings My Cherie Amour
On this day in 1969, My Cherie Amour was released.
I don’t want to age myself here, but I wasn’t even old enough to need acne treatment when this song was released. How does that make you feel?

Do You Know Your Historical Figures?
Who is the only person hung as a heretic, and then canonized as a Saint?
Here are some hints.
She was born in 1412 in Domrémy, Bar, France.
She died May 30, 1431 in Rouen.
She is considered a national hero in France.
I doubt she ever needed any acne treatments.
Who is she?

Memorial Day
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation’s Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely observed on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers. On May 5, 1868, Logan declared in General Order No. 11 that:
“The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.”
During the first celebration of Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, after which 5,000 participants helped to decorate the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried in the cemetery.
Read more about the history of Memorial Day at The History Channel or go to your public library and find a few books, then take a moment this weekend to remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Thank you for fighting for the freedom we enjoy today. Your actions made this country what it is today, and for that, you truly are, The Greatest Generation.

Crossing The Atlantic
On this day in 1927, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to cross the Atlantic solo,
and on this day in 1932, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to cross the Atlantic solo.
Sorry, but the only part of the Atlantic I want to be connected to is a nice Hilton Head rental in the middle of the summer. I don’t think I could handle being on a ship anyway.

Marilyn Monroe Sings
On this day in 1962, Marilyn Monroe sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy.
So, I have a question. How did they get her dress to blow up in ‘Some Like It Hot’? Was it just a simple air vent or did they use air tools of some kind to make it happen?

Pope John Paul II Is Shot
On this day in 1981, Pope John Paul II was shot by Mehmet Ali Agca.
Throughout my life I haven’t wanted to travel the world much at all. There are just a few places I have ever wanted to go. I did want to visit Italy though, and see Pope John Paul II. Of course, you need a passport to do that, and well, I just never took the time to get mine back then.
