A Free Raleigh, North Carolina Getaway For You
When traveling back and forth to the main office at the day job, I love stopping in various cities to check out the architecture of the buildings and to get a taste of their food. One of the cities I love stopping in, is Raleigh, North Carolina. Raleigh is truly a unique city and I have always had a great time while I was there.
The city of Raleigh always has a boatload of events on their community calendar, and this year is no exception. Fall in Raleigh is a lot of fun, especially with their Shakespeare Festival, museum exhibitions, Halloween Trail, Haunted historical park, and Celtic Halloween.
With a city as pretty as Raleigh and the fall calendar loaded with events, it’s the perfect time for a wonderful Fall Getaway and you might not have to pay for it! That’s right. ‘Visit Raleigh’ is giving you a chance to win the following:
- One night accommodations for two at the Courtyard by Marriott Raleigh Crabtree Valley
- $25 gift certificate to Bloomsbury Bistro
- Free VIP admission for two to Rum Runners
- 2 tickets to the North Carolina Theatre
- 2 tickets to the N.C. Museum of Art’s Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism
- 2 tickets to Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossils, New Discoveries at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences
All you have to do is head on over to their site and register for the Free Raleigh Getaway.
I’ve actually had lunch at Bloomsbury Bistro, and that prize alone makes it worth entering. Head on over to ‘Visit Raleigh’ now and register. If you win, make sure you try the Carolina trout, it’s absolutely delicious.

Gilligan’s Island Debuts On CBS
On this day in 1964, Gilligan’s Island made it’s television debut. Here’s the original intro from the pilot episode.
Was it just me, or did each person’s title not really fit their character? Seriously. The Skipper could have been a chef, Gilligan could have sold personalized pens, the Professor… Don’t even get me started on that guy… And what’s up with Mary Ann? She never really seemed like the innocent little farm girl she made herself out to be.
Remembering Propaganda
It’s amazing how far we’ve come since World War II. Back then, Hollywood produced propaganda for our side.
Can they say the same thing now?

An Apple A Day
We made so much applesauce and apple butter this weekend, that right now, at this very moment, I just can’t look at another apple.

I will, however, need to look at more, as we will be canning apple pie filling next, with the last bushel of apples.
Cheetoh’s
They sure don’t make Cheetoh’s like they used to…

Have they changed the recipe for Cheetoh’s? The kids had some tonight and they just didn’t taste the way I remember them. Is it just me?
I used to have a pair of Cheetoh’s cufflinks that someone I worked with once gave me as a Christmas present. Yes, at the time I had a serious Cheetoh habit.
Saturday Scene
The wife is making 14 quarts of homemade apple sauce. The butterflies love it when she works with fruit.

Of course, the kids were eating apples all day as well. Next up, she’s making apple butter and apple pie filling. Yes, we love apples around here.

Monday Night FootBall Debuts
Thirty seven years ago today, Monday Night Football debuted on ABC. What was it with the 70’s and the cheesy opening graphics on the shows? Here is a clip from the opening for Monday Night Football from 1973. I tell you what, that stuff is enough to give you a migraine.
I’ve never really “followed” football. I love the Super Bowl, but that’s about it for me. I don’t follow any sports really, except NASCAR, although I do watch the Stanley Cup playoffs, and March Madness.
